Pursuant to the recent terrible tragedy at the Endarasha Hillside Academy in Nyeri, Kenya where 21 children died in a dormitory fire, MEAK has donated fire safety equipment for the JM Goodhope Academy.
These include:
- 10 wireless smoke detectors which have been installed in the girls’ and boys’ dormitories and the dining hall
- Break glass fire alarm switches, fire extinguishers and emergency fire exit signs for the dormitories
- Two new hose reels
- Establishment of a fire assembly point
In addition, MEAK provided fire safety guidelines which have resulted in fire drills taking place once a term and the establishment of fire marshal roles to ensure preparedness in the event of an emergency
The staff and students are J M Goodhope are extremely grateful for this initiative from MEAK Director Mr Mike Belliere and MEAK logistician, Mr Alex Thiru. As a result, the school was rated the top school in terms of fire preparedness in the county, a wonderful achievement.
