The JM Good Hope Academy in is a coeducational primary and junior secondary school that was established to provide schooling for disadvantaged children. There are currently 252 children attending the school, including 36 orphans who are accommodated on-site and 28 children from disadvantaged families who receive subsided tuition fees.
MEAK has supported the school in numerous ways over the last few years, from drilling a borehole for water to agriculture projects to providing new mattresses for the dormitories. This large project aims addresses the long-standing shortage of safe and modern learning spaces at the school.
A new two-story building has been constructed that will have two classrooms and one office on each of the floors. It will replace the former timber and iron sheet classrooms that were poorly sound-proofed and posed fire-risks with a modern building built to international standards.
Despite prolonged rainfall over the Summer affecting delivery and work schedules the building is on track for completion and commissioning at the end of October 2025.
MEAK would like to thank Trustee Beverly and husband Peter Orthwein and longstanding MEAK supporters Richard & Clare Jefferies for their generous support with this project.
